SWIMMING

There are many good swimming holes in all four access sides to Taman Negara. In Bahasa Malaysia, these are called lubuk, but there are many other parts of the rivers that offer good swimming opportunities. The best swimming rivers on the Pahang side are the tributaries of the Tembeling such as the Tahan, Trenngan, Keniam and Perkai. The waters here are clear despite being slightly brownish and there are swimming holes of varied depths. The rapids at Lata Berkoh are very good for a natural Jacuzzi. Two swimming holes, Lubuk Simpon (20 minutes from Kuala Tahan) and Lubuk Lesong (two hours from Kuala Tahan), both on the Sungai Tahan, are considered the best and most accessible swimming locations.

WHITE WATER RAFTING

While white water rafting is popular in many parts of the world , the rapids and cascades of Taman Negara are not that big and adventurous. However , they are mostly safe for all ages and to 'shot' the rapids does not take any special skill or equipment - just sit back in a sampan and let the boatman do the work.

TREKKING

Visitors to Taman Negara have only two options for moving about and seeing things - by boat or on foot. Apart from river boating, trekking is the most popular activity in the park. Trekking in Taman Negara doesn't require any great skill, fitness or equipment unless overnight treks are planned. There are walks of various durations, ranging from an hour's to stroll to a nine day climb to the summit of Gunung Tahan. Climbs like the latter should not be undertaken lightly as they require fitness, preparation, equipment and good guiding. Most park visitors will participate in treks of a few hours maximum and these can be attempted by most fit people. The river offers a pleasant alternative for those who can't or don't want to return from their destination on foot.

MOUNTAIN CLIMBING

Gunning Tahan, the highest peak on Peninsular Malaysia at 2,187 meters (7173 feet), is located in the park but the climb does not require specialized mountaineering or sports climbing equipment or preparation. The trail between Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Keniam has a few limestone rises that can be climbed. Along the trail at the north-east corner of Batu Luas the trail links with the path from Kuala Keniam. Here, at the base of a limestone cliff, there is a camp beside Sungai Luas. The large cave, Daun Menari, is situated near the cliff base a little distance away and there is a 30 minute walk along the base of the outcrop. Here there are at least two climbs to the top of Batu Luas. One starts a few hundred meters south of the campsite and the other from just beyond the entrance to Gua Daun Menari.

Kelah Fish Sanctuary - center for research on sustainable conservation. Fish feeding is the latest attraction for fresh water fish enthusiast. Visitor can feed and get a close-up view of these magnificent in their natural habitat.

BIRD WATCHING

First-time birdwatchers in Taman Negara often get very excited about the bird numbers they expect to find in the rainforest environment. However, it should be remembered that birdwacthing is not easy in the dense rainforest and birdwatchers need to be quiet, patient and alert. On trails it is often best to pause for a while and wait quietly for the birds to come to you. A seemingly silent forest can suddenly come to life when a mixed feeding party passes through

CAVING

There are many caves (gua in Bahasa Malaysia) in the park. These have mostly been sculptured by underground rivers flowing through limestone outcrops. The caves are home to various bats, racer snakes and insects. Visitors should come prepared with torched and seek the services of a good guide as they are not place to become lost in.
Gua Telinga is located 2.6 kilometres (1.6 miles), within one hour's walk or ten minutes boat trip from Kuala Tahan. The returns walk from the riverbank to the cave take about one hour.
From Kuala Keniam Lodge visitors cab explore the Gua Duan Menari (Cave of the Dancing Leaves), Gua Luas and Gua Kepayang. The caves are located in an isolated area of the park, 2 ½ hours boat ride from Kuala Tahan.
